“I feel like the whole ‘It won’t sell because said character is Black’ and it’s like okay, what’s your reason other than the fact that that’s been the status quo for years upon years? Show me the math. Show me the statistics. Show me where it says that. And It’s not just in books, it’s in entertainment, it’s everywhere. We’ve been taught to consume any story that contains a straight, Whie heterosexual male and that’s it. And it’s part of the reason why I’m writing my book and why my character is Black and she’s female.”

On the latest episode of the podcast I spoke with 3 people about self-publishing, or being with an indie publisher and a Big 5 publisher. In speaking with Sophia Chester she mentioned why she choose the self-publishing route to make sure the character was who she wanted to be in Cosmic Callisto Caprica referenced on @sophiaslittleblog.
