Description: The 2015 CCBC stats show a slight uptick in ethnically diverse books but still a disparity. For two years in a row books featuring and written/illustrated by marginalized voices have won the Newbery medal as well as honors. Progress is visible but when stats like the Diversity Baseline Survey show the minimal representation within the industry. So what does this mean in terms of achieving equity? Does the psychology also need to change in publishing? What are active steps that WNDB and other organizations (and individuals) are doing to narrow the gaps? What are the actionable ways we can all help to continue the conversation but put more diverse representation throughout the industry and who do we reach out to?

Listen to award-winning authors and WNDB team members discuss their experiences, progress made, the work to be done, and also take questions and suggestions from the audience on continuing the work and reaching the necessary communities to make sure we’re all working towards the same goal for equity.
